Yorkshire may be famous for Wensleydale cheese, Parkin and of course the Yorkshire pudding, but that’s not to say Yorkshire can’t also whip up a breakfast fit for a king!

We’ve put together a list of some of the best cafés to start your day right, and sink your teeth into some amazing breakfast and brunches in Yorkshire.

Breakfast: 10am-12pm, Full English served Tues-Sun until 12pm

Tucked away along Waterhouse Lane, Scarborough, Relish Kitchen is the perfect place to grab a spot of brekkie with its cosy furniture teamed with warm tones and décor.

Relish Kitchen officially opened in October 2015, after a nine-month renovation took the building from a derelict, empty space to a homely, much-loved café.

Sink into Relish Kitchen’s comfortable sofas (there are tables too if you prefer!) and enjoy a traditional Full English, an egg, sausage or bacon sarnie, cheese or beans on toast and a hot brew, all from their classic breakfast menu.

Eat Me Cafe

Breakfast: 9am-11am

Ramen

Situated behind the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, Eat Me Café prides themselves on offering a diverse range of dishes that span a range of cultures. From Japanese Ramen to Shetland Pie, their menu really is something to behold.

Breakfast wise, Eat Me Café has it all. Choose between some of the best breakfast classics, including a Full English, breakfast sandwiches, a breakfast burrito, toast with a range of sweet and savoury toppings, crumpets and more.

If you plan on hanging around, the café turns into a social scene at 4pm and you can enjoy cocktails, burgers and more.

If you’re looking for a gluten-free breakfast, then you’re in luck! The Cranberry Swamp, Whitby is a gluten-free café with a range of alternative breakfasts as an ‘antidote to the Full English’. If you’re not gluten-free, they do offer some regular dishes and toast if needed.

The breakfast menu is chock-full of goodies, including pancakes, porridge, bacon buns, crab benedict and lots of egg-based dishes such as smoked salmon and egg, Mexican eggs and eggs royale.

The Cranberry Swamp is also great for families, as there are plenty of games for your little ones to enjoy such as Connect 4, Pick Up Sticks and more.

Tea Toast & Post

Breakfast: From 9am

☕️

Previously the fishing village’s Old Post Office, Tea Toast & Post is just metres away from Robin Hoods Bay and is the perfect setting to try an exotic tea while enjoying a scrumptious breakfast and some music. You can even bring your pooch!

“We are extremely laid back and not like other more contemporary cafes in the village.” Says co-owner Sam Pearson. “We pride ourselves on our music, the singing chef and the full working jukebox in the corner!” In the evenings, the soulful café even turns into a music venue and welcomes a range of local musicians through its doors.

Breakfast wise, Sam says a good old-fashioned Full English is a popular choice, and it can be adapted to be vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. The menu also boasts a range of speciality hot drinks, baked goods, toasties and more.

Robinsons Cafe

If you find yourself in York, a visit to Robinsons on Bishopthorpe Road is a must if you’re a bit of a foodie. The café is run by partners Will & Bex, with Bex having worked in some of the top restaurants in the country, some of which have a Michelin Star rating.

When it comes to the menu, Will says everyone has their favourites, with one of the more popular dishes being the Chorizo & Parma Ham Hash – a winner on any foodie’s brunch radar. The menu also contains sweet corn fritters, pancake stacks, creamy truffle mushrooms, smashed avocado and more – yum!

Will said the couple have worked above and beyond to offer customers a flavour sensation. “We decided to concentrate on serving the dishes that we would want to eat. Bex ensures the flavour combinations and seasoning of the dishes are of the highest standards, and I believe that it is our consistency that keeps people coming back for more.”

The Yew Tree Cafe

Breakfast – 9am-3.30pm

In the village of Scalby, The Yew Tree Café offers its diners a luxury feel, with china tea sets and crockery and beautifully dainty décor inside and out. Whether you’re looking for a sumptuous Full English or you’re after a pot of tea and sponge cake, the Yew Tree Café caters for all.

Some of the other breakfast items include toasties, eggs benedict, croissants and waffles, which can be sweet with maple syrup, chocolate sauce or berries and cream, or savoury with streaky bacon and fried egg. They also offer gluten-free bread and sausages if needed.
